Often referred to as "The Beast" at Bosch Hoek, the third hole plays as the longest on the course at 517 metres. Your tee shot is vitally important and ideally requires a right-to-left shape in order to find the fairway. To the left, a well-positioned fairway bunker and small dam protect the landing area, often catching the longer hitter's tee shot. Once you have found the fairway, you are faced with an equally demanding approach toward the green. Being a par 5, the sensible approach for most golfers is to lay up down the left half of the fairway, leaving a more comfortable distance into the green for the third shot. The green sits beyond a small stream and is perched along the side of a bank. A greenside bunker also guards the back-right portion of the green, often catching balls that carry too far onto the slope beyond.

Pro Insight:

After finding the fairway, you will typically have between 240 and 270 metres remaining to the end of the fairway, where a stream protects the front edge of the green. Use a suitable club to advance the ball around 200 to 220 metres, leaving yourself an approach of roughly 100 to 120 metres in. Longer hitters may find themselves with anywhere from 170 to 200 metres remaining, and in that case, I would encourage going for the green in two. The green is somewhat bean-shaped, with water protecting the front edge and a well-placed bunker guarding the middle-back right side. Use the natural bank to your advantage when approaching the green, as it can help feed the ball onto the putting surface and leave a good birdie opportunity.
