Stepping out of the Pro Shop, the first and tenth tee boxes are situated adjacent to the magnificent clubhouse. Everyone who visits Bosch Hoek experiences the feeling of stepping onto one of the finest golf courses in the country. Playing 322 metres, the first hole can be deceiving, tempting even the wisest golfer to take the risk of hitting a driver. A well-placed fairway bunker down the left-hand side sits approximately 240 metres from the green, leaving an approach of around 80 metres. Taking this into consideration, club selection off the first tee is vital in securing an opening par.
Pro Insight:
On the first tee of the day, there's nothing better than finding the fairway early. I suggest taking a long iron or hybrid and playing your tee shot up the right half of the fairway to position yourself well. While this may leave a slightly longer approach into the green, it keeps you safely in play and avoids bringing trouble into the equation early on. A driver is certainly an option for the longer hitter, but if it is not straight, you can quickly find yourself in difficulty. From there, favour the right-hand side with your approach shot, as this keeps you safely away from the well-positioned bunker guarding the left side of the green.
