Bosch Hoek Golf Club hosted the KZN Inland Schools Golf Trials on Sunday 21 April 2013.

The A & B Team selected will play against the KZN Coastal Team after which the KZN Team will be selected to participate in the IPT to be played at Mount Edgecombe Country Club later in the year.

Bosch Hoek Golf Club celebrated the first of its 50th Anniversary Golf Days on
Tuesday 2 April 2013, when the well known “Khehlas”, who play golf at Bosch Hoek on the first Tuesday of every month, took to the fairways!

The highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of a spectacular painting, of the Bosch Hoek Clubhouse, by Rob van Heerden (artist) and Gavin Hayhoe (Head Khehla), to
Ivan Clark the owner of Bosch Hoek Golf Club.

On Wednesday 13 February 2013, Bosch Hoek Golf Club in association with Ken Forrester Wines proudly hosted the Ken Forrester Ladies Valentine’s Golf Day and lunch.  The wine and prizes were generously sponsored  by Ken Forrester Vineyards.

Once again the Ladies went all out dressed in their Red and White to celebrate the day.

Golf Data reconstructed the putting green and grassy nursery as a trial to see how the bent grass would perform. I am happy with the results but feel we can achieve quicker cover if we incorporate more organics and good topsoil into the growing medium. I have also asked Andrew to increase the fertilizer frequency to every ten days. We are going to do another test plot using another blend so when the time comes to doing the renovations we will be sure that we have the perfect recipe.

• The revamp procedure will be as follows;
• The existing contaminated Cynoden grass will be lifted with a sod cutter.
• Some greens will be re-shaped where we can get more interesting pin positions.
•  New growing medium will be blended into the top sandy loam medium.
• We will then fumigate with Methyl Bromide to kill off all remaining Cynoden.
• The greens are then re-floated out and contours and drainage checked.
• Finally we will seed with 007 or A1 / A4 Bent Grass.

Other courses where we have done greens revamps in recent years have been at Humewood Country Club to a similar varietal of Bent we are testing at Bosch Hoek Golf.

At Durban Country Club due to the unique atmospheric conditions the Club chose to use a variety of grass known as Mini Verde.

In addition we recently redesigned & rebuilt the greens at the Windsor course at Randpark, also seeding with Bent.

The Bent we have chosen to use at Bosch Hoek Golf Club is known as A1A4 & is very similar to the varietal used at Augusta (A1) (in fact the “A” in the name stands for Augusta, where the greens all have been “equipped” with an underground system that heat them in winter, cool them in summer, blow air into the roots to aerate and suck water out when there has been a downpour.  Golf Data installed a similar “sub-air” system at Leopard Creek when we did the major reconstruction there in 2000.

When Bob Grimsdell set out to design a 9 hole golf course for Punch Barlow back in 1963, it remains a wonder whether or not he envisaged a majestic golf course that is
Bosch Hoek Golf Club today.

Bosch Hoek Golf Club celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year (1963 – 2013). As we commemorate the beginnings, remember past members and celebrate a rich heritage with great pride, Ivan Clark and the team at Bosch Hoek Golf Club look forward to creating new memories, history and heritage as we forge into the next era. Although the sun may set on the past 50 years, it dawns brightly on an exciting new journey which will enhance the unique “Bosch Hoek Experience” and elevate Bosch Hoek Golf Club to one of the finest golf courses in Southern Africa.

Bosch Hoek Golf Club’s 50th year promises to be “As good as it gets….”

Keegan Daniel was spotted enjoying a round of golf with friends over the weekend. Despite the weather not playing ball, the golf course was tackled in fine style, with the Sharks Captain showing off a fine golf swing.

Sharks players Charl McLeod and Meyer Bosman enjoyed a round of Golf at Bosch Hoek Golf Club over the weekend. Joined by a couple of friends, the Sharks scrum half and centre made the most of the good weather.

The Annual Hamper Day was hosted at Bosch Hoek Golf Club on Saturday 8 December 2012.  A full field enjoyed the sunny weather and were joined by their spouses and friends for a traditional Christmas dinner.

Bosch Hoek Golf Club hosted the Ladies Golf Members Christmas Lunch on Wednesday, 28 November 2012. The Ladies all dressed for the occasion in the spirit of Christmas and golf was followed by a Christmas lunch.

There was lots of fun and laughter and a good start to the Festive Season.
